October 12 & 13, 2019
Grand Hyatt

1 Harbour Road, Hong Kong

The complete Authentication Training Program includes the following three sessions:

Authentic 1990 Lafite

Wine Fraud and Counterfeiting Presentation:

We review the history of wine fraud, beginning in ancient times, through the more recent Rodenstock and Kurniawan counterfeit cases, including the fraud that we expose and help to prosecute today. We discuss the numerous ways that villainous vendors and malicious merchants in the wine industry defraud fellow merchants and consumers alike. We outline the different types of bottle counterfeiting, as well as the authentication techniques that we use to reveal them.

Authentication Training Level I:

Authentic 2014 Margaux

Where the presentation serves to bring everyone up to speed on the history, problems, and early detection of wine fraud and counterfeit bottles, the Wine Authentication Level I course touches on many aspects of the bottles themselves and goes deeper inside the major topics of counterfeiting and authentication. We encourage attendees to bring a bottle for authentication workshopping. Attendees receive a take-home authentication toolkit. Lunch is provided.

Authentic 1955 DRC La Tache

Authentication Training Level II:

This day-long, in-depth session serves serious wine collectors, those who should authenticate wine as part of their jobs, and those who seek to become professional authenticators. We expand on the subjects covered in Level I from the previous day, introduce new and more complex subject matter, and spend a significant amount of time using trade tools for the hands-on comparison of known counterfeits (from our extensive collection of fakes) with authentic bottles. We analyze current anti-fraud efforts and teach what to look for in assessing the most highly counterfeited wines of the last two decades. Participants gain a thorough understanding of the authentication process and can start on the path to becoming TCM Certified Authenticators ® . We encourage attendees to bring bottles for hands-on workshopping. Attendees receive take-home authentication tools. Lunch is provided. Level I training attendance is a prerequisite. Level II is limited to 15 attendees per session.

Level II is a full-day session. Attendees must have attended the Wine Fraud and Counterfeiting Presentation as well as the Authentication Training Level I. Companies can receive a discount for sending 3 or more attendees to the trainings, for more information, please email
